Amazon to develop drone parking stations on lampposts
US retail giant Amazon has patented an unmanned aerial vehicle‘s (UAV) docking stations that would turn lampposts, cell towers or rooftops into drone parking places.
Just like birds, the drones could land on docking stations and be recharged. „The docking stations can extend the range of UAVs by providing refueling stations for the UAVs,“ read the Amazon patent.
The stations would include package handling facilities and could act „as a final destination or as a delivery hub.“ Amazon also states that the stations could include navigation aid guide the drones to parking places and provide routing information from the central control.
Amazon announced its drone delivery service in late 2015.
