First TAP’s A330-900neo completes maiden flight
The first A330-900neo, which is to be delivered to the launch company TAP Air Portugal, completed its maiden flight on May 15, 2018. The aircraft will now join the two other A330-900neos already being flight tested since October 19, 2017.
This plane, MSN1819, will be the first to be fitted with Airbus Airspace Cabin. For now, it is equipped with testing equipment that allows Airbus technicians to monitor the cabin systems such as air conditioning. The ongoing tests of the new version of the A330, powered by the new Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, are taking place at Airbus’ main facility in Toulouse, while the delivery to TAP’s base in Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon is expected for the summer of 2018. The airline, an all-Airbus operator, has 10 other A330neos on order. Launched in July 2014, the A330neo line is comprised of two versions that share a 99% commonality: the A330-800 and A330-900.
The A330-900neo, designed as a follow-on to Airbus A330-300 variant, completed its first flight on October 19, 2017. Its EASA and FAA Type Certification is expected in the middle of 2018.
The slightly smaller version of the aircraft - the A330-800neo - is a 250-seater follow-on to A330-200. The maiden flight of the aircraft is scheduled for mid-2018, while its EASA and FAA Type Certification is planned for 2019.
According to the manufacturer, both models can accommodate up to 10 more passengers than their predecessors.
