On October 4, 2018, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo of New York announced a $13 billion investment plan for the remodeling and construction of two new air terminals at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York, United States.

One of the terminals, which will be located on the south side of the airport and will cover an area of ​​270 thousand square meters, will receive an investment of seven thousand dollars. It will be designed by a consortium of four airlines: Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) , Air France, Japan Airlines and Korean Air Lines.

The objective of this terminal will be to replace the current Terminal 1 (20 years old), Terminal 2 (56 years old) and occupy the vacant area of ​​Terminal 3 (demolished in 2014).

Once completed, it will surpass the space of the three terminals together by 185 thousand square meters. It will also have 23 international doors, of which 22 will be designed to receive wide-body aircraft such as the Dreamliner or the A380.

Similarly, the so-called South Terminal will have 24 security corridors, 21 thousand square meters of restaurants and other businesses, almost eleven thousand meters of airline lounges, and more than five thousand meters of green areas, children's areas and exhibitions.

For its part, the new North Terminal will have an initial budget of three thousand million dollars and an extension of 111 thousand square meters. The JetBlue (JBLU) airline will be responsible for developing this infrastructure.

For this project, Terminal 7 (47 years old) will be demolished and combined with the vacant space of former Terminal 6 (demolished in 2011) to create an international terminal connected to the current Terminal 5 (newly opened in 2008) .

This new terminal will have 12 international doors -all capable of receiving wide-body aircraft-, and space for almost seven thousand meters of shops, two thousand 800 of private airline lounges and 1,400 meters of recreational space.

The additional two billion dollars will be allocated for the construction and renovation of other needs in the airport infrastructure of this airport. However, it does not include any extension of the four tracks.

Finally, Cuomo said that the new terminals will create more than nine thousand 600 direct jobs, and will help JFK receive 75 million passengers per year by 2030. The first boarding gates will be ready by 2023, while the entire project must be completed to 2025, indicated the local government.
