NTSB recovers Atlas Air black boxes
The United States National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) has found both flight recorders from the crashed Atlas Air 767 freighter.
The NTSB announced today, March 4, finding the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), while the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) was found a couple of days earlier and has already been transported to the NTSB laboratory.
The recorders are crucial to answer the question on what made the freighter go into a steep descent, resulting in the fatal crash. As revealed previously, several witnesses saw the freighter jet enter the nosedive on February 23, 2019. The accident was also captured on video footage, filmed by Chambers County Jail security cameras, nearby.
“I saw no evidence of aircraft trying to turn or pull up at the last minute,” NTSB chairman Robert L. Sumwalt has previously commented on the video footage in reply to a question on how much time pilots had to correct the situation as the plane went to a nosedive from approximately 6,000 ft.
Flight 3591 was a cargo flight operated by Atlas Air on behalf of Amazon. It was en route from Miami to Houston, when it crashed near the city of Anahuac Texas, in the Trinity Bay. Three pilots onboard died.
