Beijing Daxing Airport offers in-airport food delivery service
As of 2020, China’s online food delivery market generates the equivalent of 45 billion USD yearly — nearly double that of the US. More than 400 million people in China use food delivery services. During the COVID-19 period, food delivery service became even more important than ever. And now, the service is not only available in the city, but also inside the airport.
Daxing International Airport is Beijing's second international airport. Officially opened last September, Beijing’s new Daxing International Airport (PKX) is now the world’s largest airport terminal, an equivalent of roughly 100 soccer fields. Being known for its high-tech facilities including 5G, facial recognition system, robots, and paperless luggage-tracking service, the airport is now adding one more passenger-oriented service.
On 4th, one of the largest online ordering app and food delivery platforms ELEME announced the cooperation with Daxing Airport, allowing travelers to use the food delivery service at the airport.
The in-airport food delivery service is a project developed by Daxin Airport, Eleme, and Beijing Capital Airport Catering Development company. Airport passengers can order food on the Daxin Airport app or ELEME app from the first batch of 21 restaurants in the airport, with a menu offering around 700 items in total, and the delivery men will deliver the meals to the gate within 30 minutes.
"The main reason for offering a delivery service is to meet the more varied dining needs of travelers. Many passengers are used to arriving at the airport without reserving additional time to spend. Thus, waiting for a seat and meals can be anxious. In the future, passengers can order good delivery on the way, and food will be ready for pick up upon gate-arrival," said the Daxing Airport project manager.
