Lufthansa Embraer ERJ-190 suffers a lightning strike in Frankfurt
The German air carrier Lufthansa Embraer ERJ-190 aircraft suffered a lightning strike when landing at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Germany.
The incident occurred on May 5, 2021, when the Embraer ERJ-190, registered as D-AECE, was performing an international flight from Marseille, France, to Frankfurt, Germany. The aircraft took off from Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) at 10.38 a.m. (UTC) for flight LH-1087 to Frankfurt Airport (FRA).
The jet was already descending towards its final destination, reaching 5000 feet and aligned with the extended runway centerline, when due to stormy weather conditions the flight crew performed a turn to the South.
Then, due to the ongoing incident at the time at FRA, where a United Boeing 787-9, registered as N25982, experienced a flaps problem and was completing an emergency landing, the flight crew of Lufthansa Embraer ERJ-190 was asked to perform two unexpected go-arounds and was cleared to continue on the descent to 4000 feet.
While on final approach prior to the landing on runway 25L, the flight crew noticed lightning near the jet and reported having suffered a lightning strike. However, the aircraft landed safely at 12.05 p.m. (UTC) and taxied to the apron with no further incidents reported.
Due to the incident, the aircraft was spotted being on the ground for about 9 hours after landing at FRA airport
