Clara Phataraprasit, please tell us a bit about your professional history.

I am from Thailand and studying B.S. Sustainable Business Management qualification at Unity College, an 100% environmental-based university. It is a transdisciplinary program which provides practical expertise and professional skills to students interested in a profession that advances the sustainable business movement.

You became a CEO at a young age. How does it feel to hold such a position?

I’m really happy, although I’m excited to gain more experience. For now, I want to learn something new every day. Fly Private Group – Eco Aviation and Yachting is a start-up and we want to make a difference.

What inspired you to start Fly Private Group - Eco Aviation and Yachting?

Eco Aviation and Yachting started from seeing a gap in the transportation technology. Look at Flightradar24 to discover how many planes are in the sky at any one time. There’s a lot of emissions released into the atmosphere. However, no two planes are alike. When it comes to scheduling flights, some planes are better choices than others since they use less fuel. These are the results of our investigation into eco-friendly flights. According to the EU's FLIGHTPATH2050 initiative, aviation manufacturers and researchers face numerous challenges. Key objectives include a reduction of 75% in CO2 emissions and 90% in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, compared to a typical new aircraft in the year 2000. Furthermore, better aerodynamics, lighter weight, and more fuel-efficient engines are the three ways to improve the fuel efficiency of aircraft. Additionally, the use of biofuels has a lot to offer, and electric propulsion systems and renewable energy won't be far behind. Eco airlines will have positive effects on the environment.

How could you describe the typical customer of Fly Private Group - Eco Aviation and Yachting?

Concept designers who are interested in the sustainable movement and those who want us to display their work. We are starting a club/group online for concept designers to network.

The company’s biography on LinkedIn includes this sentence: “We dedicate our Platform as a Love Letter to Talented Designers.” Tell us a bit more about why it is important to you to support talented designers?

Talented designers are the creators. Concept design is a stage in the design process where the broad outlines of a product's purpose and appearance are made. It covers experience, interaction, process and strategy design. It entails figuring out how to meet people's wants with products, processes and services. Concept sketches and models are common creations in conceptual design. In other words, a design concept is a central notion that guides the creation of a product and is communicated through sketches, photographs, and a written statement. This aids the designers and, eventually, the developers in staying on course throughout the creative process, ensuring they provide a product to the market with value for the targeted users. Furthermore, an effective design concept clarifies the product's purpose and lays the groundwork for the rest of the project. Creating a design concept necessitates knowing what problems you're trying to solve, what aesthetic style you want, who your audience is, and what the client wants.

What are the main criteria you use when choosing the designers to work with?

We choose eco concept designers. Concept designers are important because they aid in the communication of a design concept's look, feels, and mood. If you're just getting started with your project, it's helpful to have a clear idea of the overall design vision before you start working on anything.  In addition, concept design is also important in the area of development that enables you to ensure that your products are innovative, marketable and honorable, how much they cost to manufacture. It also means that you can determine if they can be produced. To put it another way, it aids you and the company in determining whether or not to devote the necessary resources to fully developing the product in question. Finally, the design concept provides the answer to a difficult problem. Thus, if you're working on a project, you probably have a list of objectives and goals that specify what success looks like. You've compiled a wish list of things you'd like. You have a budget, location and rough timeline in mind. As a result of all of this project data, your project requirements are formed, and a design concept must meet those requirements.

What recent trends in aviation and yacht designs have you noticed?

The recent trend we notice is eco and biophilic design. Aviation design made its first public appearance in the 1780’s, and aviation as we know it today has its roots in that era. In the late 1800’s, Sir George Cayley created the first modern aircraft that was heavier than air. In addition, the Wright brothers experimented with the idea of building a plane that could be controlled by it’s pilot. Furthermore, travelers can now relax, meet up and take advantage of an increasing number of airport services while at the airport. In order to cut down on passenger wait times, cutting edge technology such as ‘walk through security’ has been developed. The number of people traveling by plane has increased dramatically in the Asia-Pacific region. Because of this, vendors have concentrated their efforts in this area in order to expand their market share. End-to-end platforms that integrate various airport segments can be provided through partnerships with other suppliers. Airports' digitalisation is escalating at a rapid pace.

What are the prospects for the aviation and yachting industry markets?

In 2022, the aviation and yachting markets are expected to reach GBP 180 billion. The Sustainable Mobility for All (SuM4All) initiative led by the World Bank lays out a voluntary Roadmap of Actions that countries and cities can implement. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include all modes of transportation, including aviation. In addition, aviation is uniquely positioned to support the innovation conversation and its potential impacts on new mobility. Cutting edge technology, such as self-driving cars and ultralight materials, opens up possibilities for transforming the mobility system.

What impact did the pandemic have? What changes in the market have you noticed?

We think the pandemic has given people time to build on ideas and we have seen more concept design. According to The World Economic Forum, the deployment of government innovations and private sectors can help to improve the mobility landscape. Furthermore, in just over a century, our industry has progressed from learning to fly to learning to fly faster, farther and heavier planes, and now to having 100,000 or more commercial flights taking place around the world every day – representing more than 400 departures per hour. Aviation has truly been at the forefront of innovation, becoming one of the world's safest and most dependable modes of transportation today.

How will the aviation and yachting industry develop in the future?

Airbus has unveiled three concepts for the world's first zero-emission commercial aircraft, which could enter service as soon as 2035. All of these ideas rely on hydrogen as their primary source of energy. The company's goal is to set a precedent for the entire aviation industry in terms of decarbonisation. Consider a plane that can seat up to 100 people and is powered by hydrogen combustion in modified gas-turbine engines. This would be capable of traveling more than 1,000 nautical miles, making it an excellent choice for short-distance trips.

How does your company support eco-friendly production/manufacturing?

We post the latest eco aviation and yachting concept design on our blog. Biophilic design is a type of architecture that aims to bring people closer to nature by incorporating natural elements into the design.

Why is it important to support eco-friendly design?

Biophilic design is a term used in the construction industry to describe a method of increasing occupant connectedness to the natural environment by including direct and indirect nature, as well as space and place factors. It is stated that this notion has health, environmental, and economic benefits for building occupants and urban settings at both the building and city scales, with few negatives. People should support concept designers because it is an act of creativity. Also, the concept design is an early response by the design team to the project brief, thought, and action about a particular theory. Thus, it is through support that we can get certainty about the designer. Renewable energy will help to improve the environment, and we hope to see that in the future.
