Singapore Airlines (SIA1) (SINGY) will operate daily charter flights to Beijing for the upcoming Winter Olympics.

The flights will run from January 21, 2022 until March 16, 2022 for officials, athletes and delegates attending the Olympics.

“While air connectivity between our countries remains below 3% of pre-COVID levels, the Beijing Winter Olympics in Feb 2022 will be a good opportunity for us to enhance people-to-people exchanges as Singapore Airlines (SIA1) (SINGY) will be operating chartered flights through Changi Airport as a connecting hub for the region,” said Singapore’s Transport Minister S. Iswaran on his Facebook page.

“We will also continue bilateral discussions on mutual recognition of COVID-19 health certificates, which is a key enabler for safe travel.”

This announcement was made shortly after Singapore met with China at the 17th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) on December 29, 2021.

In a briefing Olympic Games official Zhang Liang told local press that transportation will rely on chartered and temporary flights, with commercial flights as supplement.

Athletes and delegates will arrive at the Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), before entering a secure closed-loop system, separated from other areas of China. They will remain in the secure area for the duration of the Games.

"During the peak periods of arrivals and departures to Beijing, an average of at least 15 inbound flights and 13 outbound flights can be provided every day," Zhang told Channel News Asia.

The Beijing winter Olympics will begin on February 4, 2022 and end on February 20, 2022.
