Gulf-Indian tie-up: Emirates, SpiceJet to start codesharing

Emirates and SpiceJet are determined to start codesharing, the duo announced on April 22, 2019, promising travellers a whole new range of destinations in India, Africa, America, Europe and the Middle East.

While the two airlines have already signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the codeshare agreement still needs to be granted approval by authorities. If carried through the tie-up would open six new Indian destinations (in addition to the existing nine) for Emirates passengers, while for SpiceJet passengers, travelling from around four dozen Indian destinations, it would open Emirates global network.

Emirates and SpiceJet are not the only airline pair arising from the respective regions. Qatar Airways and Vistara have a joint venture since August 2017, while Etihad had a 24% stake (later sumazinti to 12%) in (late) Jet Airways.
