Icelandair Boeing 767 took off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) in China on April 9, 2020. The passenger aircraft is operating a chartered cargo flight, carrying 17 tons of medical supplies to Iceland, as the country battles the coronavirus outbreak.

The flight ICE1721 took off from Shanghai at 13:15 pm (UTC +8) and is expected to arrive in Keflavík International Airport (KEF) in Reykjavik, Iceland, at around 18:00 (UTC 0) later on April 9, 2020.

The wide-body aircraft is crewed by six pilots, three ramp agents and two air mechanics. Besides the 11 people onboard, the passenger aircraft is carrying 17 tons of medical supplies, stacked both in the belly and in the cabin, as outlined in the Icelandic media reports

Having covered 9,007 kilometers (great circle distance) in 11 hours and 22 minutes on the outbound journey (flight FI1720), the aircraft arrived in Shanghai earlier in the morning of the same day. It took off again some three hours later.

The Boeing 767-300 (registration number TF-ISW) carries the name Gullborg. The 22.5 years’ old wide-body was previously operated by Air New Zealand, prior joining Iceland national carrier’s fleet and re-entering service in March 2017.

In general, Icelandair operates a fleet of 38, all-Boeing aircraft, including three more 767s and 34 narrow-bodies (of 757 and 737 types). At the moment, however, 32 aircraft are parked, planespotters.net data shows.
