On May 21, 2020, Air France flight AF407 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, unexpectedly landed in Lisbon, Portugal. The airline was initially flying to Paris, France.

The carrier’s Boeing 777-200 ER, registration number, took off from Rio de Janeiro Galeao International Airport (GIG) on May 21, 2020. After a ten hours flight, it was expected to land in Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in France.

Instead, having crossed the Atlantic Ocean, the airliner took a sharp turn and landed in Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Portugal.

Air France confirmed via social media that diversion followed a medical emergency onboard.

The Boeing 777, registration number F-GSPD, is a 21.4 years old aircraft, seating 280 passengers in a three-class configuration.
