Bali airport to close for 24H for Hindu Day of Silence
Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), Indonesia, will be closed for 24 hours , starting on 28th of March 2017 at 06:00 Bali time (GMT +8) until 29th of March 2017 at 06:00, as the island will observe the Hindu Day of Silence (28th of March 2017).
Based on the data released by DPS airport, 324 regular flights, both international and domestic, will be affected, with the most of flights operating from or to Jakarta, Surabaya and Singapore.
The airport authority said that it has distributed the Notice to Airman (NOTAM) to all airlines and airports worldwide in December last year regarding the closing of the main air gate to the island.
Although the airport will be closed for any commercial operation, it will still assign officers on duty to serve any extraordinary situations such as emergency landing or medical evacuation.
Day of Silence or Nyepi is a Hindu celebration mainly celebrated on the island of Bali. It is a day reserved for self-relfection, thus, many interfering activities, such as traveling or lighting fires.
