Among the wave of discontent of Polish service public, the pilots and crew unions of the national company LOT are holding a referendum on a strike that would happen in May 2018.

The CEO of the company Rafal Milczarski says that such strike would never happen, but trade unions have announced that if salaries are not raised before May, they would indeed take industrial action.

Unions demand to bring the remuneration back to its 2010 level. In 2012, salaries were reduced as part of an economic austerity plan. The rescue program has ended in 2015, but trade unions estimate that no significant raise has been given yet.

But for Milczarski, who said 400 pilots and flight crews have already been augmented, a general raise would put the company at risk of bankruptcy.
