Bombardier Commercial Aircraft announced that Delta Air Lines signed a firm purchase agreement for 20 CRJ900 aircraft on June 20, 2018.

Based on the list price for the CRJ900 aircraft, the firm order is valued at approximately $961 million.

The new CRJ900 aircraft will fly under the Delta Connection brand in a two-class regional jet configuration with 70 seats. Delta Air Lines will be the first airline to use Bombardier’s new cabin for the CRJ planes, called Atmosphere. It features bigger overhead storage bins, wider aisles and mood lighting.

The cabin improvement was introduced by Bombardier after the company neglected its CRJ family during the development of its C Series. The Canadian manufacturer had received criticism, pointing out the lack of comfort of the CRJ family compared to its direct competitor, Embraer‘s E-Jet family.

The delivery of the first CRJ900 is expected in late 2018.

Including the order form Delta Air Lines announced today, Bombardier has recorded firm orders for 1953 CRJ Series aircraft.

Delta Connection, the regional brand of Delta Air Lines, already operates 154 CRJ family aircraft.
