Japan Airlines expands Southeast Asia network
Japan Airlines (JAL) is expanding network in Southeast Asia. The carrier is to launch a regional route between Tokyo (Haneda) and Manila and start flights between Japan and Indonesia via newly signed strategic partnership agreement with Garuda Indonesia, according to announcement on September 6, 2018.
Although the company’s plans and schedules are still subject to government approval, Japan Airlines is hoping to increase frequency of flights to Manila to three per day, by launching new route from Tokyo (Haneda) on February 1, 2019.
In addition, it has also signed a strategic partnership agreement with Garuda Indonesia, to offer four daily flights between Japan and Indonesia. The two airlines are first planning “codeshare flights between Japan and Indonesia, and on domestic flights operated by Garuda Indonesia and Japan Airlines, respectively. Garuda Indonesia will also offer codeshare flights on select transpacific routes operated by Japan Airlines,” according to a statement by JAL.
The carriers are also looking “to develop the partnership” in the near future, including “the enhancement of their frequent flyer programs and ultimately pursue a joint business structure in their respective market”.
