Delta Air Lines to launch cargo flights on Belgium-U.S route
Delta Air Lines is reportedly set to start flights from Detroit, United States to Brussels, Belgium. The flights, operating twice a week and exclusively carrying cargo, would begin in January 2021.
Furthermore, the American air carrier is likely to boost its cargo flights from twice-weekly operations to three flights a week starting February 2021.
Speaking to local media, Kyla Ross, a spokesman of Delta Air Lines, confirmed that the air carrier plans to operate cargo-only flights with its Airbus A330 passenger aircraft for two months from January to February 2021. Meanwhile, the airline will likely switch the aircraft on the route to the Airbus A350-900 jet, a wide-body aircraft that can carry up to 42 tons of cargo in its lower deck hold, from March 2021.
According to DeltaCargo.com data, the airline offers the delivery of various shipments, including vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and other medical equipment, by operating Airbus A330-200s, A330-300s, A330-900s, and A350-900 aircraft as well as Boeing 767-300ERs. Delta Air Lines operates more than 20 cargo flights per week on average.
In December 2020, Delta Air Lines decided to increase its cargo capacity across its network by launching various scheduled cargo flights. The Atlanta-based airline began flying cargo between New York-John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Madrid-Barajas International Airport (MAD), Spain with its Boeing 767 aircraft. Meanwhile, the carrier also scheduled cargo operations between JFK and Dublin Airport (DUB), Ireland with Airbus A330 aircraft. As for the Indian market, the company launched cargo service from JFK and Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Mumbai, India utilizing A330-200 and A330-300 planes with a stop in Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Germany.
