Indian state-owned aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) inked a leasing deal with Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India, to deliver two civilian Dornier 228 aircraft for regional operations in Arunachal Pradesh.

Alliance Air will use the pair of Dornier aircraft to boost connectivity within the state of Arunachal Pradesh under the Indian Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS).

“It was a big day for the state given the geographical challenges in the vast state; the connectivity will now be easier,” said Pema Khandu, the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, in a statement on September 26, 2021.

Arunachal Pradesh is an Indian state based in the northeastern region. It shares domestic borders with Assam and Nagaland to the south and international borders with Bhutan and Myanmar.

The Dornier 228 is a twin-engine general-purpose aircraft that can transport up to 19 passengers.

An Indian variant of the Dornier 228 built by HAL, called the Hindustan 228, recently completed its preliminary tests on August 15, 2021.
