A Boeing 747 freighter is being prevented from taking off by authorities at Frankfurt-Hahn airport (HHN) in Germany due to sanctions on Russia over the war in Ukraine.
Germany daily Bild reported that the CargoLogicAir UK jumbo, which was at HHN for maintenance, will remain in Germany for an unspecified period of time. CargoLogicAir UK has two B747-400 freighters and is part of the Volga-Dnepr Group.
“Because the airline Cargologicair UK and its aircraft are subject to EU sanctions, a take-off ban has been placed on the B747, which was at Frankfurt-Hahn for maintenance,” the daily cited local aviation authorities as saying.
Bild cited the German transport ministry as saying that the airline is owned by Russian citizens and is therefore subject to EU sanctions.
The grounding could bring some useful income for Hahn airport, which is currently insolvent. A spokesman for the insolvency administrators told the paper it can charge parking fees of around 1,200 euros per day for the 747.
