airBaltic receives its latest A220 aircraft of the airline’s 50 Airbus order

airBaltic has welcomed its 41st Airbus A220-300 jet, registered as YL-ABO, in Riga, making it the second delivery in 2023. 

The new jet, which arrived on April 29, 2023, is part of the Latvian airlines 50 Airbus A220-300 order which airBaltic has made. 

airBaltic also holds 30 options and purchase rights for the same aircraft type. 

So far airBaltic has carried approximately 11 million passengers on its Airbus A220-300 aircraft and completed more than 130,000 flights and flown over 280,000 block hours. 

Since May 2020, airBaltic operates all its flights with the Airbus A220-300, thus minimizing issues and benefiting from the additional efficiency provided by the aircraft. 

In a statement airBaltic said: “The Airbus A220-300 has performed beyond the company’s expectations, delivering better overall performance, fuel efficiency and convenience for both passengers and the staff.” 

airBaltic recently announced that Q1 2023 was a record-breaking quarter for the company, with “positive business indicators” exhibited throughout the three-month period.   

In total, the Latvian flag carrier earned €104.3 million ($114.7 million) of revenue, 74% more than in Q1 2022.   

airBaltic currently connects the Baltic region with over 70 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.  

The airline employs around 2,300 staff members with the Latvian state the biggest investor, holding 97.97% of the stock.
