Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) is focused on boosting its short and medium-haul fleet by 2030, according to the carrier’s CEO Shinichi Inoue.

Speaking to reporters at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit 2023 in Istanbul, Turkey, on June 5, 2023, Inoue said ANA would be particularly looking to increase its Boeing 787 planes.

“It is important for us to increase fuel efficient aircraft such as the 787 in the future,” he told Reuters.

ANA’s CEO also confirmed it plans to launch the low-cost airline Air Japan by spring 2024.

As industry leaders gather for the IATA’s three-day AGM, a number have taken the opportunity to make announcements about operations.

Prior to the start of the AGM Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker revealed that the Boeing 777X aircraft will not offer first class seating, potentially signaling the end of the product onboard the carrier’s jets.

Thai Airways also reportedly wants to dispose of six of its dormant Airbus A380 aircraft as part of the order negotiations, according to Aviation Daily, which spoke to the airline’s CEO Chai Eamsiri at the AGM on June 4, 2023.

According to ch-aviation, currently ANA has 199 aircraft active with 13 inactive planes and 24 wet leased.

The airline is waiting for 55 aircraft to be delivered, including 18 Boeing 777-9 and 15 Airbus A320neos.
