ANA Airways has revealed the final details surrounding the retirement of its famous C-3PO-themed Boeing 777-200ER, effectively drawing the airline’s iconic collaboration with the Star Wars franchise to an end.

On December 5, 2025, ANA confirmed there would be three days of special flights (schedule below) on the C-3PO-themed 777, giving fans the chance to say their final goodbyes to the aircraft that first adorned the Star Wars livery in 2017.

The Japanese airline said that its C-3PO ANA JET, “which has been cherished by many passengers over the years”, will end its service on January 9, 2026, after concluding the three-day finale.

On January 7, 2026, the first flight of the day will be from Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) to Osaka Itami Airport (ITM) while the final flight will be on January 9, 2026, from Fukuoka Airport (FUK) to Haneda.

Over the entire three days there will be 18 flights covering several airports across Japan, giving as many passengers as possible the chance to fly the C-3PO-themed 777 for the final time.

ANA

Earlier this year, ANA announced that its popular R2-D2 robot, which is painted on the fuselage of a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, will fly for the last time on August 6, 2025.

Officially, the ANA Star Wars Project will draw its history to a close on March 31, 2026, but with the final jet linked to the franchise being withdrawn in January 2026, for many this will very much signal the end.

The collaboration between ANA and Star Wars began in 2015, and the carrier has since painted several of its aircraft with themes from the movies.

An ANA Boeing 777-300ER featuring the BB-8 theme was introduced in 2016 and retired in 2022 while a Boeing 767-300ER had R2-D2 on one side and BB-8 on the other from 2015 to 2019.

Other airlines such as United, LATAM Airlines and Alaska Airlines have also introduced Star Wars liveries over the years.

ANA Star Wars Project final event

ANA also announced plans for a Star Wars Project final event on January 10, 2026, to “express our heartfelt gratitude to the fans who have supported the project”.

An ANA hangar will become a special showcase where attendees will be able to view the C-3PO ANA JET close up. There will also be an exhibition of the R2-D2 ANA jet and BB-8 jet model planes.

ANA Mileage Club members are being invited to enter a free raffle to be in with a chance to attend the event. There will be 40 pairs (80 guests) of tickets available.

You can find more details to enter on the ANA website.
