BermudAir, Bermuda’s hometown airline, has placed an order for 10 A220-300 aircraft, marking its first-ever order with Airbus.
The deal, unveiled July 22, 2026, at the Farnborough International Airshow, had actually been included in Airbus’s order book back in March 2026 as an undisclosed order.
The addition of the A220 gives BermudAir room to grow its fleet and expand its route network, while also bringing the aircraft into a new region of operations for Airbus.
A fit for Bermuda’s growth plans
Adam Scott, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BermudAir, said the A220 is well suited to support the airline’s next phase of growth, calling it “the ideal aircraft to support the next phase of BermudAir’s growth.”
He pointed to the aircraft’s range, operating economics, and performance at constrained airports as key factors that will let the airline connect more communities across Bermuda, the Caribbean, and North America “with direct, reliable and convenient air service.”
Scott also highlighted the passenger experience, noting that BermudAir has quickly established itself as “the premier airline serving Bermuda and the Caribbean,” backed by a Net Promoter Score above 70. He said the A220’s “spacious, quiet and comfortable cabin” lines up well with what the airline’s guests have come to expect.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, said BermudAir’s selection of the A220-300 “validates the aircraft’s role as a tool for targeted regional development.”
He said the agreement “introduces the A220 to a distinct operational environment in the Atlantic and Caribbean,” showing how the aircraft’s efficiency supports different kinds of business models. He thanked BermudAir “for their trust in Airbus” and said the company looks forward to supporting the airline’s network expansion.
What the aircraft brings to BermudAir’s network
Configured with a 135-seat, three-class layout, the A220-300 will let BermudAir open up nonstop routes and connect Atlantic and Caribbean destinations with more scheduling flexibility.
Airbus says the aircraft delivers a 25% reduction in fuel burn and carbon emissions per seat compared to older aircraft, a factor that carries particular weight for the island environments BermudAir serves.
The order adds another milestone to the A220 program, establishing the aircraft in a brand-new region while reinforcing its ability to work in specialized regional and mainline markets alike.
Airbus describes the A220 as the most modern aircraft in its size category, combining long range with low fuel consumption to carry between 100 and 160 passengers on routes of up to 3,600 nautical miles, or roughly 6,700 kilometers.
By the end of June 2026, 526 A220s had been delivered to more than 25 operators worldwide, with the program’s order book standing at more than 1,100 aircraft.
