German airline Discover Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, has announced four new nonstop routes linking destinations in the UK and Ireland to Germany for the summer of 2027.
In March 2027, Discover Airlines will begin flying six times per week between its base at Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) and Glasgow (GLA). This will be followed by the launch of other services from Frankfurt: starting in April, a once-weekly to Shannon (SNN), in the Republic of Ireland, twice-weekly to Bristol (BRS) from May and once-weekly to Inverness (INV) from June.
Starting on May 16, 2027, Discover Airlines will also launch a twice weekly service between Munich (MUC) and Glasgow (GLA), a route formerly operated by Lufthansa mainline.
All these services are to be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft. In principle, they will be limited to the summer months.
These will be the first destinations within the British Isles ever to be served by Discover Airlines.
The German carrier is usually focused on serving warm weather destinations in southern Europe and the Tropics from Germany. With this choice, however, Discover Airlines is betting on the tourist potential of areas such as the Highlands of Scotland and the countryside of Southwest England, marketing them primarily to German tourists.
Rebranded in 2023 from its previous name of ‘Eurowings Discovery’ (not to be confused with Lufthansa’s low-cost subsidiary Eurowings), Discover Airlines is currently in the midst of an expansion drive which should see it grow to 40 aircraft by 2028 (half of them widebody aircraft, the other half A320s).
