Emirates will redraw the boundaries of premium economy travel with the introduction of privacy screens for passengers that value flying a little more comfortably.
On September 3, 2026, Emirates introduced the world’s first electrically powered premium economy seat, featuring a full-height adjustable privacy divider between each seat.
According to Emirates, the privacy screen is the “first feature of its kind” in premium economy cabins worldwide and something that will no doubt catch the eye of other airlines.
New seats and privacy screens will be introduced on Emirates’ newly received Airbus A350 widebody aircraft in a 2-3-2 configuration with just 28 seats.
Emirates explained that the privacy screens can be raised and lowered using the seat controls and locked into place when fully extended.
The feature is designed to create a “more private and personal environment for relaxing, dining or working throughout the flight”.
Passengers will also be able to adjust the chair using the integrated Passenger Control Unit (PCU) and switch between a range of settings such as lounge mode and meal mode.
Emirates added that the seats can also recline into a cradle position for sleeping or relaxing “without intruding on the row behind”.
“From pioneering onboard connectivity and inflight Wi-Fi to introducing next-generation entertainment systems and continually investing in customer comfort, Emirates remains committed to delivering products that help customers Fly Better,” an Emirates spokesperson said.
The Dubai flag carrier is also introducing Emirates’ U-Dream headrest by Safran Seats and a manually deployable leather footrest.
Additionally, wireless charging is being introduced to its premium economy product for the first time, and every seat also includes USB-C charging and a practical tray table.
“Inspired by the airline’s signature Business Class experience, Emirates Premium Economy has set a new benchmark for the category – offering a level of comfort, privacy and refinement that rivals the Business Class cabins of many airlines,” added the spokesperson.
Currently Emirates has an active fleet of 27 A350-900s with 46 more to be delivered in the future, according to ch-aviation data.
