Etihad Airways is introducing a revamped experience onboard its aircraft across three service classes (first, business and economy). This new cabin product, named Beyond Borders, was unveiled during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) trade show, which took place in Dubai on September 14, 2026.
While the more visually recognizable elements of the Beyond Borders experience are the new state-of-the-art cabins which Etihad will roll out across its fleet, this initiative also covers other parts of the passenger experience, including airport lounges, the dining experience and inflight connectivity.
The first aircraft to be line-fitted with the new Beyond Borders cabins will be the airline’s Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, which are slated to enter service in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Etihad placed an order for 15 A330-900s in November 2025 (six of these were ordered directly from Airbus and another nine through leasing company Avolon) as part of its growth strategy.
The Abu Dhabi carrier is betting on the growing demand for premium travel by increasing the number of first class seats, including on the regional and medium-haul markets that the A330-900s are primarily allocated to.
Beyond Borders cabins will next be fitted into Etihad’s A321LR aircraft. According to ch-aviation data, as of September 2026, Etihad operates 12 of the 30 aircraft ordered from the European manufacturer.
In a press release announcing the introduction of Beyond Borders, Etihad highlighted that it is precisely the positive performance of the A321LR fitted with first class cabin which encouraged it to extend this service proposition to relatively shorter segments.
The new A330-900 Beyond Borders cabins will each feature four first class suites with closed doors and enough space for two travel companions to dine or socialize together.
In addition to first class, the A330-900 will also feature 24 full lie-flat business class seats with direct aisle access, as well as 252 economy class seats. 32 of the economy class seats will be extra legroom, offering four additional inches of pitch.
Etihad Airways has allocated US$1 billion to cabin retrofits as part of its larger US$20 billion investment plan, which also includes new aircraft procurement.
