Finnish synthetic aperture radar (SAR) operator ICEYE and launch services provider Arianespace have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the use of Ariane 6 for future missions carrying ICEYE satellites.
The arrangement targets European governmental and institutional missions. ICEYE said the two companies are discussing booking launch services in the coming years.
The MoU could address a gap in ICEYE’s sovereignty proposition. The company sells constellations that governments own and operate, and says its systems carry no ITAR restrictions, but its satellites have reached orbit almost entirely on US vehicles. Six ICEYE satellites flew on SpaceX’s Transporter-16 rideshare from Vandenberg Space Force Base on March 30, 2026, and four more on Transporter-17 on July 7, 2026.
Rafal Modrzewski, ICEYE CEO and co-founder, said scaling satellite production went together with scaling multiple routes to space. David Cavailloles, Arianespace CEO, said the agreement reflected the company’s commitment to supporting European governments and institutions.
That pattern sits alongside a customer base drawn from European defense ministries. ICEYE says seven European governments have procured sovereign constellations from it, including Poland, which took delivery of the four-satellite POLSARIS system on May 15, 2026.
Ariane 6 ramps up as ICEYE doubles satellite production
Ariane 6 has flown nine times since its debut on July 9, 2024, four of them in 2026, on February 12, April 30, June 17, and August 27.
The launcher was developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) with ArianeGroup as prime contractor, and is marketed and operated by Arianespace. Its most recent institutional payloads include two Galileo navigation satellites launched on December 17, 2025. Arianespace says it has completed 362 launches and deployed more than 1,200 satellites for 150 customers.
Announcing its Series F round of more than 1 billion euros in June 2026, ICEYE said its production rate is doubling, from 50 satellites a year to a target of 100 annually by 2028 and beyond.
