Saudia Group is moving closer to a “substantial” aircraft order, according to a company executive who spoke with Bloomberg in an interview.

According to Bloomberg, Sanjiv Kapoor, Executive Vice President of Strategy at Saudia Group and acting CEO at flyadeal, said the group is awaiting the final nod from the board before opening the Request for Proposal (RFP) process.

The purchase is expected to benefit both Saudia and flyadeal with the first aircraft expected to be delivered in 2031.

“We have now completed the assessment of the number of aircraft we will need for growth as well as to replace the older fleet in the longer term,” Kapoor told Bloomberg.

The executive suggested an order could come all at once or in stages but gave no indication of numbers.

Earlier this year, it was reported Saudia could order at least 150 jets from Boeing and Airbus, including 777-9 s and A321neo family aircraft.

Saudia is still awaiting dozens of new aircraft as part of its Vision 2030 project ambitions.

In December 2025, Saudia’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Arved von zur Muehlen, told AeroTime the carrier was expecting to receive a new aircraft every month in 2026 and one aircraft every week in 2027.

According to ch-aviation data, Saudia is awaiting deliveries of 60 A321neos, 12 A321XLRs, 18 787-9s and 10 787-10s. On July 6, 2026, Saudia announced that it had signed an agreement with Boeing for four new 777-200 freighter aircraft, adding to the four it already operates.

Low-cost carrier flyadeal has 61 aircraft on order including 39 A321neos, 13 A320neos and 10 A330neos.
