Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has unveiled its first Airbus A350-900 in Toulouse, featuring over 360 film elements including dragons, bears and even Queen frontman Freddy Mercury.
It is the first time the “Wanderlust’ livery has been seen adorned across a new aircraft after details about the unique paintwork were announced earlier this year.
Introducing the A350-900 at the Airbus facility in Toulouse on June 24, 2025, SWISS said the film elements have been “meticulously applied by hand, transforming the aircraft into a flying artwork”.
“Behind the design is a love letter to Switzerland – creative, playful, and full of stories. From iconic landmarks to cultural traditions, each illustration celebrates a unique facet of our country,” the airline said.
SWISS claims the “painted masterpiece” is a “world-first” requiring 380 m2 of artwork and millimeter precision.
The design features iconic landmarks and cultural tradition from Switzerland including a marmot, the apple arrow shot of Wilhelm Tell and Helvetia.
On LinkedIn SWISS COO, Heike Birlenbach said: “Today in Toulouse, our very first Airbus A350-900 leaves the hangar at Airbus in Toulouse – now dressed in its striking special livery Wanderlust. This A350 represents the future of our fleet – efficient, elegant, and full of character. We’re looking forward to welcoming it to Zurich later this summer… and soon, to the skies!”
In total SWISS will receive 10 A350-900s between the summer of 2025 and 2031, to renew and expand its long-haul fleet.
The aircraft are part of a 25-aircraft order placed by SWISS parent company, the Lufthansa Group, in 2019.
The first A350 will now undergo final testing in Toulouse before flying passengers on long-haul in the coming months.
SWISS plans to operate its A350-900s with a four-class cabin fitted with three first class suites, 45 business class, 38 premium economy and 156 economy class seats.
