Top 7 Aviation Movies through the History

Through decades Hollywood studios have funded and created lots of Aviation movies. Until these days some of them became blockbusters while other were considered as flops. While some aviation experts already expressed their opinion about greatest movies, it’s time for us to present our own TOP 7 list.

7. Airplane! (1980)

AirplaneEvery Hollywood fan will definitely know Leslie Nielsen and his great ability to make people laugh. While watching Airplane! you’ll encounter a lot of crazy situations and sometimes stupidity even goes deeper. Story of this film is actually very simple, as it tells how a man who’s terrified of flying needs to land a plane. If you still haven’t watched this one, you should do it immediately as it’s one of the greatest comedies of all times.

6. Air Force One (1997)

Air Force OneAir Force One  - a great action movie with the elements of drama. Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman played the main roles in this film and the plot is about ex soldier’s task to save the president of the United States and his family. Air Force One earned two Oscar nominations for best sound and best film editing. What is more, specifically for this film director used F-15 Eagle aircraft from the 33d Operations group and movie became one of the most popular action dramas in 1990s.

5 .Top Gun (1986)

Top GunNext film in our list was one of the most popular action dramas in 1980s. Top Gun actually helped Tom Cruise to become an A-Star player in Hollywood market as he played a military pilot named Maverick. Few aviation experts said: “In this movie you’ll see incredible aerial photography”. US Navy definitely helped movie director Tony Scott to get the right shots. Top Gun earned one Oscar for best music and specifically for famous song “Take My Breath Away”.

4. The Great Waldo Pepper (1975)

GREAT WALDO PEPPER, THEHistorical drama about World War I pilot who missed aerial battles due to his job as a flight instructor. The Great Waldo Pepper takes every aviation fan to early 1920s and everybody can enjoy incredible acting skills of legendary Robert Redford.

3. The Battle for Britain (1969)

The director of The Battle for Britain even decided to use Air Forces for Great War scenes as they were never used before.

2. Pearl Harbor (2001)

In the second place is the legendary Pearl Harbor came which even earned an Oscar in Best Sound Editing category. Director Michael Bay hired Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett and Kate Beckinsale for the main roles and some cinema critics named this movie as “Epic blockbuster with astounding visual effects”.

Movie tells about a legendary director and aviator Howard Hughes and it’s career from 1920s till 1940s. The Aviator earned 5 Oscars and it is definitely worth to watch.
