Saint Maarten Beach: Famous Place For Close Landings. Princess Juliana International Airport on the Caribbean island of Saint Maarten located near Maho Beach has been a favorite place for plane spotters over the years. Aircraft are forced to land so close to the beach so as to touch down near the start of the short Runway 10, which is 2,300 meters in length.  Here you can check out the risky landing at St Marten's challenging runway video.  Worth to watch it!

It's an amazing experience to see huge planes just overhead, so brave tourists continue to visit the beach to witness this phenomenon. As a result the area is popular with plane spotters and many of the surrounding bars and restaurants on the beach display airline departure and arrival timetables. As planes approach the airport for landing on the short runway they come within feet of the sun bathers, offering a thrilling experience and an awesome photo opportunity.
