COVID-19: Ryanair unveils new toilet policy [Video]
As Ryanair prepares to resume 40% of its flights in July 2020, the low-cost carrier presented a series of measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Among them, passengers will need to request access to the toilets from the cabin crew.
40% of Ryanair’s schedule should resume from July, thus reopening 90% of its network. The exact routes concerned have not been unveiled yet.
However, passengers of these flights will have to respect special instructions presented by the Irish carrier in a video.
The passengers will be expected to check in on the app and check their temperature before leaving for the airport. They are required to wear a mask at all times. Social distancing will have to be respected while queuing at the gate.
Such measures are already enforced by most companies since the beginning of the pandemic. A more unexpected constraint, however, is that passengers will only be able to access the plane toilets after asking the authorization of the cabin crew. This should allow attendants to better control the flow of passengers, and thus enforce social distancing in the cabin.
In-flight service will also be limited, and customers will only be able to buy pre-packaged snacks and drinks.
"Be assured that all Ryanair planes are professionally cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis, which is effective for more than 24 hours," adds the video, reminding that the HEPA air filters fitted in the plane operate to hospital standards.
“Ryanair will work closely with public health authorities to ensure that these flights comply, as far as possible, with effective measures to limit the spread of COVID-19,” said CEO Eddie Wilson.
