Indonesian Air Force Hawk 209 crashes in residential area

An Indonesian Air Force BAe Hawk Mk 209 light attack aircraft crashed in the Riau province of Indonesia, on June 15, 2020. The pilot managed to eject from the aircraft.

The plane, registered TT-0209, took off from Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base (PKU) in Pekanbaru. It belonged to the 12th Air Force Squadron “Black Panthers” deployed there. 

The Hawk Mk 209 crashed approximately five kilometers away from the base. The pilot managed to safely eject before impact. The aircraft crashed into a house in the residential area called Kubang Jaya. No ground casualties were reported at this time. 

“We are still investigating the cause of the accident and the number of casualties,” Air Force spokesman Fajar Adriyanto told The Jakarta Post.

The BAe Hawk Mk 209 is a light, single-seater fighter jet derived from the Hawk, initially designed by BAE Systems to provide the British Royal Air Force with an advanced training aircraft.
