Man arrested in second Ryanair bomb threat of the week

A Ryanair plane was escorted by the Royal Danish Air Force and met by the Oslo police upon landing after a bomb situation was declared mid-flight. It is the second incident of this kind in less than a week.

The Boeing 737, registered EI-EKD, was carrying out flight FR1392 from London Stansted Airport (STN), United Kingdom, to Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL), Norway, when a bomb threat was declared mid-flight. Two F-16 fighter jets of the Royal Danish Air Force were scrambled to escort the aircraft. Upon landing it was met by an emergency squad and hostage negotiators from the Oslo police.

“The plane landed safely and evacuation of the passengers was initiated immediately,” Oslo police said in a statement. “The police are in control of the incident and have arrested a 51-year-old British man, suspected of being behind the threats.”

The two fighter jets landed in Norway for refueling before flying back to their base of Jutland, Denmark. It is the second time that a bomb threat is declared aboard a Ryanair flight in less than a week. On July 14, 2020, Ryanair flight FR1902 diverted to London Stansted Airport (STN), to where the airliner was escorted by two Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
