German Minister’s A400M aircraft grounded after first flight
On the 7th of February, Germany’s Minister of Defence Ursula von der Leyen stated that she had been forced to replace her brand new Airbus A400M military transport with other aircraft to fly back from Lithuania.
The initial modern plane has failed its service due to trouble with its Europrop TP400 engine its very first mission, German news portal F.A.Z. reports.
The defective machine had to remain at the airport in Kaunas. After the failure, the Minister and her delegation wanted to fly back to Berlin with an older Transall aircraft. The A400M is meant to replace the Transall aircraft.
The Airbus A400M is oftentimes dubbed the most modern military aircraft in the world. At the same time, however, it is also the biggest problem for the Federal Defence Forces of Germany. Political, financial and technical problems have delayed its development for many years.
“An engine has failed,“ said the politician on Tuesday in Lithuania. Ursula von der Leyen had visited a NATO battalion led by the Federal Defence.
