Germany to leave Incirlik airbase in Turkey
The withdrawal of the German military contingent began on July 9 from the Incirlik airbase in Turkey, Der Spiegel wrote referring to the official information of the German Ministry of Defense.
According to the German media outlet, first of all, it is planned to transfer fueling aircraft from Turkey to Jordan, after that moving Tornado multirole bombers.
Almost 260 German soldiers served on the Turkish base, helping operate flights within the framework of the international coalition's mission against ISIS.
The decision to withdraw the contingent was made after German MPs were repeatedly denied the right to visit the servicemen on the base. Such a decision by the Turkish authorities was explained by Germany's reluctance to extradite Turkish military officers suspected of attempting a coup in July 2016.
