SkyUp adds more charter flights as it gets second B737-800
On June 3, 2018, Ukrainian SkyUp Airlines launched new charter flights operating their second aircraft Boeing B737-800, just a day after they received it. The flights are now being performed from Kiev and other regional airports in Ukraine.
SkyUp Airlines got Air Operator Certificate on May 16, 2018,and promptly completed their first frequently postponed commercial flight, which happened to be Kiev – Hurghada (May 21, 2018).
On May 22, 2018, SkyUp applied to the Government Aviation Service in order to get the rights to accomplish regular domestic and international flights, mentioning approximately 55 routes in the request.
While waiting for the government response to allow regular flights, SkyUp Airlines are now fully involved in charter flights, which moves them away from the original idea of being “the first national low-cost carrier”.
SkyUp general director Eugene Haynatsky says it’s the part of their plan to start with establishing international charter flights. “The first year of our work will be more about charter flights. But as we replenish the fleet and grow as a carrier, we plan to continue regular and charter flights by a ratio of 50-50%”, - Haynatsky said.
SkyUp fleet now consists of two secondary market B737-800s, 2013, both previously used by Malaysia Airlines. According to official press release, in March 2018 SkyUp Airlines and Boeing signed a contract for five new B737 MAX aircraft, expected to be manufactured by 2023.
