Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), a Lufthansa Group subsidiary, accepted the first Airbus A320neo delivery on February 20, 2020. The Zurich-based carrier ordered a total of 25 A320neo family aircraft in September 2014: 17 A320neo and eight A321neo jets.
However, the first delivery has come at a delay, as SWISS indicated in its 2019 outlook that it expected to take up the new aircraft during 2019 and not in Q1 2020.
The airline filed its plans to operate the first commercial flight of the A320neo in March 2020, with flights from Zurich Airport (ZRH) to Brussels Airport (BRU), Hamburg Airport (HAM), London-Heathrow (LHR) and Valencia Airport (VLC) operated as its first destinations from Switzerland’s largest city.
In addition to the newest A320neo aircraft in its fleet, SWISS operates 60 Airbus narrow-body aircraft: 29 A220s, two A319s, 19 Airbus A320s and nine A321 planes. The carrier’s long-haul flights are flown by 14 Airbus A330 aircraft, five quad engine A340s and 12 Boeing 777-300ER wide-bodies.
The company expects to receive the rest of the 24 Airbus’ new-engine option aircraft by 2024.
