Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) announced that the Scandinavian carrier’s first of three Airbus A321LR aircraft is going to be deployed on flights between Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) starting September 18, 2020. 

The A321LR that will fly between the Danish capital and Boston will be configured in a 157-seat arrangement, with 22 fully flat Business, 12 Premium Economy and 123 Economy class seats. In addition, the cabin will offer in-flight entertainment screens and power outlets for all travelers to recharge their devices. Hi-speed Wi-Fi will also be present onboard.

Flights between CPH and BOS, starting September 2020, will become a year-round service, switching from its Summer-only schedule. SAS will operate six weekly flights on the route with the A321LR, a company spokeswoman confirmed to AeroTime. During Summer 2019, the Scandinavian airline operated daily flights with an Airbus A330, which it plans to continue to do so in Summer 2020 before switching to six flights per week service with the A321LR during the winter.

SAS is currently going through a fleet renovation process, which it announced on April 10, 2018, when the airline shook hands with Airbus for an order of 50 Airbus A320neo aircraft. Out of the 50 A320neos, 15 will be acquired via leasing companies.

“Ordering 50 Airbus A320neos gives us access to the market’s most efficient aircraft thereby enabling us to further improve our operational efficiency and to continue to reduce our climate-impacting emissions,” said Rickard Gustafson, President and Chief Executive Officer of SAS in April 2018.

As of November 15, 2019, SAS operates 157 aircraft, including 55 Boeing 737s and 52 Airbus A320 family jets, planespotters.net data shows. The carrier‘s wide-body fleet is also going through an overhaul, as it awaits the deliveries of eight Airbus A350 jets to replace the aging and gas-hungry A340s. Together with the A350, SAS also introduced a new livery.
