The Dublin-based low-cost carrier Ryanair released an update on its flight services in the short-term period.
Ryanair expects most of its flights to be grounded onwards from March 24, 2020. The group has offered its aircraft to “all European Union governments” for rescue and essential flights to move medicine and protective equipment.
However, the message also highlighted the fact that following China’s experience, the group does not expect to operate any commercial flights in April and in May 2020, depending on government-imposed travel restrictions.
On March 23, 2020, Ryanair Transnational Pilot Group (RTPG), representing unionized Ryanair pilots, released a public letter pleading Ryanair’s management to discuss the current crisis pressing the whole aviation industry. The union, which called “for a united and socially responsible” answer to the current situation, also outlined several solutions, including the avoidance of lay-offs in the long-term.
In the latest message, the low-cost carrier stated it would do “everything it can“ to keep its aircraft, crew and engineers operational so that “when Europe defeats this COVID-19 pandemic” the group would be prepared to return to service immediately.
