A LOT Polish Airlines Embraer E195 had an eventful morning on August 4, 2020, as the aircraft took off, suffered a bird strike, returned back to its original destination, subsequently took off again and suffered another bird strike, eventually diverting to another airport.
The Embraer E195 (registered SP-LNL) operated flight LO8625 from Poznan Airport (POZ), Poland to Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) in Spain. The aircraft initially took off from runway 28 at 6:51 AM local time (UTC +2) towards Spain, when the E195’s engine hit a flock of birds. Half an hour later, the jet returned to Poznan. After the aircraft was deemed safe to fly, the LOT Polish Airlines’ E195 took off again at 9:40 AM local time (UTC +2). However, once again, the aircraft hit a flock of birds and was forced to divert, this time to Poland’s main airport, Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW). The jet landed at 10:23 AM local time (UTC +2), after about half an hour in the air once again.
The aircraft is currently sat at WAW. A replacement Embraer E195 (registered SP-LNA) departed from Warsaw at 11:07 AM local time (UTC +2) and is estimated to arrive in Mallorca at 15:55 PM local time (UTC +2).
