On February 22, 2021, Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 departed from Alice Springs aircraft storage, suggesting that the airline’s stored A380 would be returned to service.
The Airbus A380-841, registered as 9V-SKQ, performing a flight SQ8896, departed from Alice Springs Airport (ASP) and landed in Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (KYF) for planned maintenance checks.
“The aircraft, registration 9V-SKQ, has been moved to Sydney to undergo routine checks following its storage, before returning to Singapore where it will be retro-fitted as part of our plan to have all 12 remaining A380 in our fleet fitted with the latest A380 cabin product,” a spokesperson of Singapore Airlines (SIA1) (SINGY) told the Australian Aviation.
The flag-carrier of Singapore plans to retire seven of its Airbus A380 aircraft. However, other 12 A380s would be kept in service and remodeled by the end of 2021.The remodeled aircraft would have the newest first class suites on the forward upper deck.
