Mexican flag carrier, Aeromexico, intends to add 12 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to its fleet. The move comes as the carrier tries to replace old aircraft and improve connectivity.
The 12 Boeing 737 MAXs will be the addition to the 28 MAXs the airline ordered in April 2021, making a total of 40 new aircraft to be added to its fleet. The arrivals are expected to begin in October 2021.
“Aeromexico continues its strategy of having the safest, state-of-the-art, efficient, and least polluting fleet,” Nicolas Ferri, Aeromexico’s Chief Commercial Officer, was quoted in the statement written on July 20, 2021. “The additional new aircraft will allow us to continue boosting connectivity in our main hubs to meet our customers’ demand with the best aircraft, service, and a fare family that meets their travel needs.”
Aeromexico signed a letter of intent with a lessor Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) to take delivery of 12 Boeing 737 MAXs. The agreement to add 12 737 MAXs is “subject to the approval of the United States Court for the Southern District of New York, in charge of Aeromexico’s Chapter 11 voluntary financial restructuring process”.
Currently, Aeromexico has a total of 118 aircraft in its fleet, as per Aeromexico data. The largest part of it consists of 53 Boeing 737 family aircraft. Adding to that, the air carrier operates 47 Embraer 190s and 18 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
