Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aims to modernize its existing fleet with new Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A321neo aircraft. The Baku-based carrier expects to replace older aircraft by 2030.
Azerbaijan’s flag carrier is currently in talks with Boeing and Airbus to purchase nine Boeing 787 Dreamliners and up to 20 Airbus A320neo, Airbus A321neo aircraft, as outlined in the airline’s statement.
With the addition of new Dreamliners, the carrier expects to replace its older widebodies: Boeing 757s, Boeing 767s, and Airbus A340 aircraft. With the addition of the next generation Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 aircraft, AZAL seeks to replace older Airbus A319s and Airbus A320s.
Currently, AZAL has a total of 22 aircraft in its fleet with an average aircraft age of 13.4 years old, according to Planespotters.net. The fleet comprises seven Airbus A320s, four Airbus A319s, three Airbus A340s, three Boeing 767s, two Boeing 757s, two Boeing 787 Dreamliners, one Boeing 777 aircraft.
