The Predator Mission Trainer, conjointly developed by CAE and General Electrics, has entered service at Amendola Air Force Base (AFB) in Italy.

It will help in the formation and training of the flight crews from the 32nd Wing (32° Stormo). This aviation unit pilots the 12 Predator drones currently in service in the Italian Air Force, the Aeronautica Militare (AM).

These drones have served in supporting American-led anti-ISIS operations in Syria and Iraq and in anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia. They also monitored migrants’ flows for the Mare Nostrum operation in the Mediterranean Sea.

This new UAS Trainer is a level D simulator specifically designed using real flight data extracted from AM test flights. It is currently the highest fidelity simulator for the Predator systems.

With this new acquisition, Italian Armed Forces aims at establishing one of the best unmanned bases of training and operations in the world.
