The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India has reportedly launched an investigation into an incident at Mumbai International Airport (BOM).

According to the Times of India on April 11, 2023, an Emirates A380 wide-body aircraft was taxiing at the airport when a jet blast from the plane’s jet engine propelled a baggage trolley into a stationary SpiceJet plane.

The SpiceJet Boeing 737 was struck and required maintenance to a damaged part of the plane.

The aircraft was released to service after the replacement,” a source told the Times of India.

The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation will examine the incident to understand how the events unfolded.

“An OAL baggage trolley hit the right-side wing to body fairing panel due to the jet blast of an aircraft while taxiing out,” a spokesperson told the local publication.

Jet blast is created by powerful jet engines used to thrust modern aircraft when taking off and in flight.

The blast of energy is capable of damaging infrastructure and causing loss of life if ground personnel are too close.

In 2021, a 61-year-old woman was left with serious injuries after she was blasted by a jet engine on the Greek island of Skiathos.

The woman was standing on a roadside and was thrown into the sea by the force of the jet engine.
