Swissport International is looking to expand its Latin America network through the acquisition of Colombian ground services company, Giraldo Hermanos International SAS (GHI).
On September 21, 2026, Swissport International confirmed plans to acquire a majority stake in GHI which operates in the Colombian capital Bogotá and Medellín.
Currently Swissport provides services at 85 airports across 15 countries in Latin America but is looking to scale up in fast-growing aviation markets like Colombia.
GHI is licensed to provide ground handling at all major airports in Colombia, where it offers a range of services, including passenger and air cargo handling.
“Colombia is a strategically important, high-growth market for Swissport, and GHI has established a strong operational platform from which we can grow together,” Warwick Brady, President and CEO of Swissport International said. “We are delighted to partner with the GHI team as we expand in Colombia, strengthening our ability to support our existing airline customers and their operations across the region.”
Among GHI’s current clients are Copa Airlines, Air Europa, Turpial Airlines, Solar Cargo and FedEx.
“Our proven track record of operating complex, large hubs, combined with our global network, technology and leading capabilities, puts us in a strong position to support Latin American carriers while bringing Swissport’s high standards of service to Colombia,” Brady added.
According to Swissport, Colombia is South America’s second-largest domestic aviation market after Brazil, with 57.5 million passengers travelling through its airports in 2025. It also ranks as the second-largest international air freight market in the region.
“This partnership brings together GHI’s strong local knowledge and established operations with Swissport’s global capabilities, creating an exciting platform for our customers, employees and partners and supporting the continued development of our industry in Colombia,” Francisco Giraldo, CEO of GHI, said.
The closing of the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
