Turkish Airlines has finalized an order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with options for another 50, completing a purchase delayed by a dispute over engine maintenance terms.
Boeing announced the agreement on September 23, 2026, calling it Turkish Airlines’ largest single-aisle order from the manufacturer. The deal was finalized in New York in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the United Nations General Assembly being held this week.
Deliveries are scheduled for 2033 through 2037. The agreement also gives Turkish Airlines the right to substitute the larger 737 MAX 10 for MAX 8 aircraft.
The purchase completes negotiations that began in 2025, when Turkish Airlines announced plans to acquire up to 150 MAX jets alongside a separate order for Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The MAX commitment remained conditional on reaching an agreement with engine supplier CFM International.
Talks stalled over maintenance terms with CFM, the joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran. Turkish Airlines had threatened to abandon the Boeing purchase and turn to Airbus if the engine negotiations failed, Reuters reported.
The new MAX aircraft will support Turkish Airlines’ short- and medium-haul network from Istanbul. The airline has ordered the MAX 8, with flexibility to switch to the higher-capacity MAX 10 as its requirements develop. The additional 50 aircraft remain options.
The separate Dreamliner agreement announced in September 2025 covers 50 firm aircraft: 35 Boeing 787-9s and 15 of the larger 787-10, plus options for another 25.
The 787-10 will be a new variant for Turkish Airlines. Boeing said it would provide additional passenger and cargo capacity on busy routes between Istanbul and destinations in the United States, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
