Brussels Airlines announced on August 17, 2026, a significant increase in the capacity it offers to Europe’s far north during the 2026/27 winter season.
The Belgian flag carrier is launching scheduled service between its base at Brussels-Zaventem (BRU) and three Arctic destinations: Evenes (EVE), near the Lofoten archipelago of northern Norway, Kemi (KEM), Finland, at the northern end of the Gulf of Bothnia near the border with Sweden, and Kittilä (KTT), which is one of the gateways to Finnish Lapland.
The route to Kittilä will run three times weekly between December 10, 2026, and March 27, 2027. The Kemi route will be offered twice weekly between Christmas Day 2026 and March 10, 2027, and Evenes will be serviced once per week in February and March 2027 only.
According to Brussels Airlines, the addition of the new routes is a response to the growing popularity of northern destinations, which offer travelers a choice of unique winter landscapes and unspoilt nature, including opportunities to spot the famous Northern Lights.
Over the last few years, a number of European airlines have added services to the northern reaches of the Nordic countries. What was once primarily a highly seasonal (the run-up to Christmas) and family-oriented market focused on the theme of Santa Claus has become a growing travel niche appealing to much broader audiences.
For example, in March 2026, airlines of the Lufthansa Group, of which Brussels Airlines is part, were operating up to 69 weekly flights during the winter months from different airports in Central and Western Europe to destinations close to Arctic Circle.
The German flag carrier is also launching a new nonstop service between Munich (MUC) and Rovaniemi (RVN), as well as adding a second weekly frequency between the Bavarian capital and Kittilä. Frankfurt will also see an increase in the number of frequencies to Rovaniemi and Kuusamo (KAO), both in Lapland.
Tromso (TOS), in northern Norway, will also see two additional frequencies to both Frankfurt and Munich.
