Lufthansa’s Discover Airlines has officially retired its last Airbus A330-200, closing a chapter on the very aircraft that operated the airline’s first-ever commercial flight in July 2021.

On October 28, 2026, Discover Airlines confirmed that for its final flight the Airbus A330-200, registered D-AXGE, travelled from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) in the US to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in Germany.

Following the almost seven-hour overnight flight, the 22-year-old aircraft made its final landing with Discover Airlines passengers onboard at 06:36.

“This morning, flight 4Y51 from Philadelphia to Frankfurt marked the final commercial flight of the last remaining Airbus A330-200 at Discover Airlines – bringing a special chapter of our airline’s history to a close,” Discover Airlines said.

The aircraft was delivered to Qatar Airways in 2004, before moving to SunExpress in Germany in 2016. SunExpress ceased operations in 2020.

All three A330-200s retained their original livery while the rest of the Discover Airlines fleet adopted its skyline design.

On LinkedIn Marcel Chmielorz, CFO at Discover Airlines, wrote: “It is particularly special to see this chapter come to a close, knowing that D-AXGE operated Discover Airlines’ very first passenger flight in July 2021. From the beginnings of Eurowings long-haul to the establishment and growth of Discover Airlines, the A330-200 has been part of an important chapter in our journey.”

According to ch-aviation, Discover Airlines’ fleet now includes 18 Airbus A320-200s and 15 A330-300s.

Starting mid-2027, Discover Airlines is scheduled to begin receiving 13 Airbus A350-900s.
