Italy’s new national airline ITA Airways has signed a codeshare agreement with Etihad on December 8, 2021.

The new partnership intends to boost the connectivity and tourism between Italy and the United Arab Emirates. It will offer more travel options while traveling from Rome Fiumicino International Airport (FCO), Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), and Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH).

The new flag carrier has been actively signing codeshare agreements with airlines across Europe and the Middle East since its first commercial operation on October 15, 2021.

In November 2021, ITA Airways signed codeshares with three airlines, including Air Serbia, TAP Air Portugal, and Air Europa, while in early December it started a new partnership with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

ITA Airways began operations with a network of 44 destinations and 59 routes, which it intends to increase to 74 destinations and 89 routes by 2025. Currently, the airline has a total of 52 aircraft in its fleet. However, ITA Airways plans to increase this to 78 aircraft in 2022 and 105 in 2025.
